HP Smart SAN Solution Enables Autonomic SAN Configuration for HP 3PAR StoreServ, Reducing OPEX and Decreasing SAN Deployment Times to as Little as One Minute
ALISO VIEJO, Calif., Sept. 9, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today, QLogic, HP and Brocade released HP Smart SAN for 3PAR StoreServ, a standards based solution with express provisioning technology, that allows storage administrators to orchestrate end-to-end deployment from servers to storage in as little as one minute. Leveraging the embedded intelligence of QLogic Gen 5 (16Gb) Fibre Channel SAN components and Brocade Gen 5 switches, HP Smart SAN simplifies tasks associated with connecting and managing HP 3PAR StoreServ arrays in a SAN environment. HP Smart SAN integrates effortlessly with HP 3PAR StoreServ Management Console (SSMC) to streamline and automate tasks associated with configuring, troubleshooting and testing end-to-end diagnostics in the SAN environment, all from one management console.
"We are pleased to collaborate with industry partners, QLogic and Brocade, to simplify storage provisioning and lower operating costs," said Craig Nunes, vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Storage Products, HP. "HP Smart SAN for 3PAR StoreServ is driving unique innovation in Fibre Channel standards and setting the groundwork for improved integration, as we look to the future and integration into other management platforms."
Other HP Smart SAN advantages include:
Simplifies Management Complexity – HP Smart SAN's seamless integration with HP StoreServ Console simplifies tasks associated with SAN configuration, troubleshooting and end-to-end diagnostics testing, ensuring storage administrators at all experience levels can easily and effectively zone fabrics, map servers and execute SAN diagnostics from one management console.
Reduces OPEX – By leveraging embedded Gen 5 Fibre Channel firmware from QLogic and advanced diagnostics from Brocade, overall operational expenses are reduced, as additional installs and costs are not required for deployment or use. For example, customers can simplify zoning setups with 80 percent fewer steps1.
Decreases Time to Deployment – HP Smart SAN reduces the time to deploy and orchestrates HP 3PAR StoreServ connectivity to SAN environments. Tests show that 128 initiators can be configured to connect to an HP 3PAR StoreServ array in one minute or less with HP Smart SAN, where conventional methods require more than two hours. In field tests, system engineers reported that the HP Smart SAN setup and deployment took up to 99 percent less time than other solutions2.
Future Roadmap and Intelligent Industry Standards – Making intelligent use of industry-standard Fibre Channel FDMI commands, HP Smart SAN simplifies and consolidates SAN management and lays the roadmap for improved future integration with other management platforms.
"SMBs and distributed enterprise deployments need the significant advantages that Fibre Channel SANs bring about, but without the complexities of deployment. iSCSI and NAS have typically been viewed as less complex, and together, we are changing this for IT managers," said Shaun Walsh, vice president of corporate marketing, QLogic. "HP Smart SAN removes the complexity of Fibre Channel storage, reduces deployment times to as little as one minute for virtualized environments and extends the market reach of Fibre Channel."
"Integrating Gen 5 Fibre Channel technology between servers, storage, and the network will accelerate infrastructure deployment and simplify management," said Jack Rondoni, vice president of storage networking at Brocade. "This enables HP Smart SAN customers to quickly and easily deploy the highest performing and most reliable application infrastructure to address dynamic growth requirements."
